The Kast Off Kinks at The Globe, Cardiff

Review by Martin Wingfield

There's only one way to listen to music by The Kinks and that is live, loud and at a traditional music venue.

Kast Off Kinks at The Globe in Cardiff on Saturday night ticked all those boxes and the packed venue responded accordingly creating an amazing atmosphere.

It was 90 minutes of non-stop Kinks' hits with Dave Clarke, John Dalton, Ian Gibbons and Mick Avory so tight and together that they produced covers that matched or bettered the originals.

Dead End Street, Autumn Almanac, Victoria, Picture Book, and 'the hit that never was', Better Things, got as good a reception and the classics You Really Got Me, Lola and Sunny Afternoon.

Kast Off Kinks are keeping the songs of Ray Davies alive and played as the Maestro intended when he wrote them more than a quarter of a century ago.

All in all, an incredible and memorable evening.
